When? Friday 29th November 2024 10:15 am – 12 noon
Where? The Mansion, Beckenham Place Park, Beckenham BR3 1SY
In today’s visually driven world, body image plays a pivotal role in shaping our mental health and overall well-being. If we are to lead fulfilling lives, we need to accept ourselves when we look in the mirror. That means talking better to ourselves and others to understand that our internal beauty is so much more than our external appearance.
‘ We can accept and cherish our bodies, no matter their type, shape or size, or what can be seen as imperfections or flaws.’
Each of us needs a deeper level of understanding of who we are, our values, our sense of belonging, and our boundaries, based on an awareness of how special we all are as individuals. Wording that is very sensitive. This isn’t an easy topic. Which is why it’s good that we’re doing it.
Join us, the Let’s Talk Better campaign (LTB), for an insightful event where we explore the profound impact of body image on our lives and the importance of speaking up to break down the stigmas and taboos surrounding this critical issue.
We’ll examine how our perceptions of our bodies influence our self-esteem, mental health, and daily interactions. We‘ll discuss how external factors such as societal beauty standards, social media, cultural influences, and even the type of work we do, affect body confidence. More importantly, we will address how body image concerns can lead to anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, and why it is crucial to foster open conversations about these issues.
Through expert talks, personal stories, and interactive sessions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the psychological effects of body image, learn strategies to boost self-esteem and discover how to build resilience against external pressures.
We will emphasise the power of dialogue in dismantling harmful stereotypes and encourage attendees to be vocal advocates for body positivity.
Let’s Talk Better provides a safe space where we can collectively challenge the silence and stigma around body image issues. By speaking up, sharing experiences, and supporting each other, we can be part of creating a culture that values all body types and promotes mental well-being.
Who Should Attend: This event is open to anyone interested in learning about the complex relationship between body image and mental health. It is particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing body image concerns, mental health professionals, educators, parents, and anyone looking to foster a healthier, more positive self-image. Whether you’re struggling with body image yourself or want to support others in their journey to self-acceptance, this event offers valuable insights, practical tools, and a platform to speak up and make a difference.
